Fencing Earns Two Medals at NCAA West Regionals

The Incarnate Word men's fencing team took to the NCAA West Regionals this afternoon as a tune-up before the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Conference Championships get underway on Sunday.

The Men's Saber was Incarnate Word's most successful weapon with a pair of Cardinals finishing on the podium. Yassin Khodir matched Stanford's Robert Wang for most victories in pool play with eight but settled for silver with a +10-indicator tiebreaker mark. Adham Shalaby earned the bronze after posting seven victories in pool play.

Three Cardinals competed in the Men's Epee, with Sylvain Yang placing a team-best 5th in the event. He tied for third in pool play victories but missed out on the podium due to the indicator tiebreakrer. Another four Incarnate Word fencers competed in the Men's Foil. James Dore was the top-finishing Cardinal in the weapon, placing 9th.

The Cardinals come right back to compete in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Conference Championships on Sunday, March 8th.
