WUXI, China - UIW men's fencer Yassin Khodir, finished 6th in the Individual Junior Men's Sabre event at the World Fencing Championships being held in Wuxi, China this past weekend. The result is the best finish for a UIW Fencer in the school's history.
The sophomore transfer from Cairo, Egypt has seen great success in his first semester as a Cardinal. In March, Khodir stood atop the podium in Angola, winning the Junior Sabre Individual African Fencing Championship. He also led the Egyptian team to a victory in the team event a few days later.
At the NCAA West regional qualifiers later in March in Colorado, Khodir had 10 victories and only 4 losses to finish 2nd and qualify for Nationals at Penn State. One day later, he captured the MPSF men's Individual Sabre Title, winning 15-10 in the final match.
With his 6th place finish at Nationals, Khodir produced the second best results a fencer has ever achieved. With his successful results, he was named second-team All-American.
On March 27th, Khodir was named the 2025 MPSF Men's Fencer of the Year. He is the first UIW Fencer to earn a major MPSF annual award, and the school's third all-time annual recipient (assistant coach Courtney Hurley-2024; head coach John Moreau-2022).
