LAKE CHARLES, La. – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team fell in the its rematch with the McNeese Cowboys on Saturday night.
Four Cardinals scored in double-figures, with
Tahj Staveskie leading the way, scoring 19. All five of his field goals were 3-pointers to go with four free throws. Harlod Woods scored 15 with none of his buckets coming from behind the arc.
Davion Bailey and
Jordan Pyke both added 12.
The Cardinals almost exclusively scored in chunks of three in the first half of the contest, keeping them in the game. After Woods got things started with an easy layup and Bailey made a free throw the Cardinals scored 24 straight points on either a 3-pointer or an
and-one conversion. UIW finished the half with six made shots from behind the arc, four from Staveskie, and knotted up with McNeese at 30.
Things slowed down for the Cardinals in the second half as turnovers come back to bite UIW. After a stretch of five turnovers in three minutes the Cards had turned it over 20 times in the game and the Cowboys took a 57-45 lead, their largest of the game.
UIW was not able to make a dent in the lead and fell by a final score of 81-64 on Saturday night. The Cardinals will be back on the road Monday for a matchup with Southeastern Louisiana.
