SAN ANTONIO -- After one of its biggest wins in some time, the University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team was rewarded with a pair of Southland Conference Player of the Week awards.
For the second time this season,
Hannah Alexander was named SLC Goalkeeper of the Week, while
Tyler Coker was named Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday morning.
Alexander,
who also earned the conference honor on Sept. 15, captured it again after a masterful performance
in a 2-0 win over Northwestern State on Friday.
Against a Demon team that was second in the nation with 41 goals scored, she tied her season high with nine saves while keeping the high-powered offense off the scoreboard.
Alexander enters the week leading the SLC in saves (60) and saves per-game (4.62) and is third in the conference in save percentage (.750).
Coker also played her part in the win, scoring a critical 51st-minute goal that pushed UIW's lead to 2-0.
The senior from Albuquerque, N.M. has come through with a string of clutch plays in conference action. She scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 win over East Texas A&M, then assisted on the game-winner against Southeastern, also a 2-1 victory.
This is Coker's first Southland Player of the Week award, and her second honor as a college player. She was previously named American Athletic Conference Offensie Player of the Week while playing for UTSA on Sept. 23, 2024.
The recent success has UIW sitting atop the Southland standings with a 3-1 conference record.
The Cardinals, who are 6-5-2 overall, are back home on Thursday for a 7:30 p.m. SLC game against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
