SAN ANTONIO -- Fresh off one of the biggest wins in recent program history, the University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team looks to build on its current run of success while also maintaining its lead in the Southland Conference.
The Cardinals (5-4-1, 3-1) are on a three-game win streak and recently moved atop the SLC standingsÂ
with a 2-0 shutout of Northwestern State on Friday.
Atiana Lara and
Tyler Coker both scored goals while keeper
Hannah Alexander and the UIW defense shutout a Demon offense that entered the game second in all Division-I with 41 goals scored.
The win led to UIW earning
a pair of Southland Conference Player of the Week awards, with Alexander being named Goalkeeper of the Week and Coker earning Offensive Player of the Week designation.
Incarnate Word currently has nine points in conference play, two more than two teams. One of those teams is 2-1-1 Lamar, who the Cardinals will travel to face on Oct. 15.
Prior to that, UIW will be back at home this Thursday to take on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Cardinals are 4-0-2 at Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium this season, while TAMU-CC is 0-3 on the road.
