SAN ANTONIO - The University of the Incarnate Word men's and women's cross country teams continue their home stretch and will host 13 different schools on Sept. 12 for the UIW Invitational. The meet will take place at the Windcrest Golf Club.

Six people from the men's team finished within the top 10 placements at their previous meet. Second team all-conference runner Jared Laverty finished in second with an 18:02 time, followed by Eric Pineda (18:13) and Bryan Mileski (18:15) right behind him in third and fourth, respectively. Anthony Zapata (18:15), Ethan Malesich (18:19), and James Butler (18:39) rounded out the top ten.
Following the men's dominant first place standing, the women's team continued to fill the final standings with UIW red finishing third collectively. Leading the Cardinals, Stoya Laydevant (14:15) finished in eighth in her first collegiate meet. Oceane Cercueil (14:20) finished right behind her in ninth, and Vera Maisaje (14:36), the Cardinals' lone all-conference winner from last year, placed fifteenth on the women's side.
The Cardinals are competing at the Windcrest Golf Club against 12 different schools from Texas and Southeastern Oklahoma this Friday, with men's at 8:00 a.m. and women's at 8:40 a.m.
