SAN ANTONIO– The University of the Incarnate Word men's and women's cross country teams competed in the sixth annual UIW Twilight meet on Friday night at the Classics Elite Soccer Complex. The men's team won their fifth consecutive Twilight, while the women were third behind the University of Houston and Texas State. All results can be found here.
The men's team dominated the field, placing six in the top ten. Jared Laverty led the way for the Cardinals for the second year in a row, finishing in second with an 18:02 time. Eric Pineda (18:13) and Bryan Mileski (18:15) finished right behind him in third and fourth, respectively. Anthony Zapata (18:15), Ethan Malesich (18:19), and James Butler (18:39) rounded out the top ten.
Freshman Stoya Laydevant (14:15) led the way for the women's side for the Red and Black as she finished in eighth in her first collegiate meet. Oceane Cercueil (14:20) finished right behind her in ninth. Vera Maisaje (14:36), the Cardinals' lone all-conference winner from last year, placed fifteenth on the women's side.
The Cardinals will be back in action in San Antonio on September 12th at the UIW Invitational. The meet will take place at Windcrest Golf Club.
