Baseball Starts Five-Game Week on the Road Against Ranked Texas A&M

SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team heads to College Station to take on No. 8 Texas A&M on Feb. 20. The Cardinals then return home to host UIC on Feb. 21 at Sullivan Field, sponsored by H-E-B at 2 p.m. UIW closes out the week at home against Alcorn State on Feb. 23-25. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, then 1 p.m. on Sunday.

UIW 

  • Outfielder Dalton Beck has seven hits, two home runs, and five RBI this season to lead the team, batting .500. DH Cameron Caley is another key player for the Cardinals, bringing in four hits, one home run, one triple, and four RBIs. 

  • Micah Berens is 1-0 in two outings this season allowing only one hit and no earned runs through 6 2/3 innings pitched.  

  • In a three-game series against Villanova on opening weekend, UIW came away with the sweep, defeating the Wildcats 12-7 on Friday, 7-6 on Saturday, and 9-6 on Sunday.  

Scouting the Aggies 

  • Texas A&M is 3-0 so far this season with a sweep over McNeese. 

  • After finishing 38-27 last season, the Aggies were picked to finish third in the SEC-West. 

  • Jace LaViolette and Braden Montgomery were named to the SEC All-Conference Preseason Teams. 

Scouting the Flames 

  • UIC is 2-1 so far this season with a series win over Kansas. 

  • After finishing 28-25 last season, the Flames were picked to finish eighth in the Missouri Valley Conference. 

  • Jackson Bessette leads the team in hits with seven and a batting average of .467. Dillon Schueler is 1-0 this season allowing only one run on six hits.  

Scouting the Braves 

  • Alcorn State is 0-3 so far this season, losing games to Southern University (4-10), Jackson State (5-11), and Prairie View A&M (14-15).  

  • After finishing 8-40 last season, the Braves were picked to finish sixth in the SWAC West.  

  • Kalum Banks Jr. has five hits, one triple, one home run, and six RBIs this season to lead the team batting .556.
