Box Score SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team won their first home of the season in front of more than 100 elementary schoolers, 97-53, over Southwestern University on Friday afternoon.
In his first start of the season
Jordan Pyke showed out leading the team in scoring with 22 points. Five Cardinals scored in double figures including Pyke, Dyaln Hayman had 17,
Davion Bailey had 15,
Harrison Reede had 12, and
Jalin Anderson had 10.
Jordan got out to an early start. His first two made field goals set the tone with a dunk and an and-1 layup. His hype??? Helped push the Cards out to an early double-digit lead. However, the Pirates would not go away. With 6:02 in the half SWU cut the lead to just four points. Down the stretch UIW scored 10 points on easy baskets in the paint and from the line. UIW rebuild their comfortable lead and went into the locker room up 46-32.
The Cardinal offense exploded in the second half. In just six minutes UIW went on a 21-to-2 run. Nine different UIW players scored in this half, compared to just four in the last game. UIW took over the game on both offense and defense in the final minutes of the game. Outscoring Southwestern 51-21 and forcing nine turnovers, securing the 97-53 win.
