Box Score HOUSTON – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team defeated Rice University, 10-1, Tuesday evening on the road.
Cameron Crotte led the Cardinals in hits with three on the night. Jimmy De Leon and Hernan Yanez recorded two hits each in the win. Grant Randall led the team in RBIs with four on the night. On the mound, Carson Rollins picked up the win, allowing one run on six hits in five-plus innings of work. Ryan Schlotzhauer and Steve Hayward finished the game allowing no runs on no hits the rest of the way.
Randall got the scoring started with a bang, crushing a grand slam to left field to give the Cardinals a 4-0 lead.
After two scoreless innings, the Owls got on the board in the fifth to bring the score to 4-1.
Crotte extended the Cardinals' lead in the top of the eighth on an RBI single to right field. Alec Carr later doubled in Crotte to bring the score to 6-1.
In the following inning, the Cardinals put the game out of reach, scoring four runs to take a commanding 10-1 lead. Yanez drove in two runs on a two-run single up the middle, and Crotte drove in two more runs on a two-run double to center field.
The Owls would go down in order in the ninth to bring the final score to 10-1.
