Baseball Visits Rice; Hosts New Orleans in Last Home Conference Series

SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team is set to visit Rice University in a midweek game on Tuesday, May 9. The Cardinals will host New Orleans in a three-game series starting Friday, May 12, and ending Sunday, May 14. The Cardinals have a 5-1 conference series record and sit in second place in the Southland Conference rankings. Friday's game has been moved to 2 p.m. with Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. The senior day ceremony will begin at the conclusion of Sunday's game. 

  

HOW TO FOLLOW   

 

UIW  

  • Infielder Jimmy De Leon has been a key contributor for the Cardinals all season, with 33 RBIs and 58 hits. De Leon has also recorded six home runs, one triple, and ten doubles this season while batting .345. Catcher Hernan Yanez has 53 hits, three home runs, one triple, 14 doubles, and 34 RBIs while batting .312.   
  • Isaiah Zavala is 6-1 this season in ten starts. Zavala has pitched 52.2 innings this season, holding a 4.10 ERA while allowing 48 hits and striking out 58 batters.    

  

Scouting the Owls 

  • Rice University is 17-30 this season, coming off a 0-3 series loss against UTSA this past weekend. 
  • So far, the Owls are 7-17 in conference games this season with a series win over UAB. Rice currently sits in eighth place in the C-USA standings.  
  • Manny Garza is batting .289 with 44 hits, 22 RBIs, and 16 runs scored. Parker Smith is 2-2 this season, striking out 73 batters while giving up 18 earned runs in 72.1 innings pitched.   

Scouting the Privateers 

  • New Orleans is 28-20 this season, coming off a 2-1 series win over Houston Christian University this past weekend. 
  • So far, the Privateers are 9-9 in conference games this season, with series wins over, Southeastern and Houston Christian.  New Orleans currently sits in sixth place in the Southland Conference standings.  
  • Tristan Moore is batting .343 with 57 hits, 46 RBIs, and 52 runs scored. Brandon Mitchell is 8-3 this season, striking out 71 batters while giving up 36 earned runs in 75.2 innings pitched.
