SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team picked up its fifth SLC series win, against McNeese State, Saturday afternoon in an 8-6 win at Sullivan Field, sponsored by H-E-B.
Alec Carr, Hernan Yanez, and Cameron Crotte each had two hits to lead the Cardinals. Leading the Cardinals in RBIs was Warren Laster who drove in three in the win.
The Cardinals jumped out ahead in the first with a two-run double by Crotte to take an early 2-0 lead.
After three scoreless innings, the Cowboys tied the game at 2-2 in the fifth on a two-run single. Later in the inning, Carr singled in a run to bring the score to 3-2.
McNeese took its first lead in the fifth on two sacrifice flies to bring the score to 4-3. Later in the inning, UIW drove in four runs to reclaim the lead. Laster drove in three on a three-run triple and Daniel Calabrese extended the Cardinals lead on a sacrifice fly.
Yanez extended the Cardinals lead on an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to extend their lead to 8-4.
The Cowboys pulled within two in the eighth after driving in two runs on a sacrifice fly and RBI single.
The Cowboys would go down in order in the ninth to end the game with a score of 8-6.
