EDINBURG, Texas - The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team fell to UTRGV, 9-8, on Tuesday evening.

Rey Mendoza led the Cardinals offensively with one hit and three RBI's in the loss.

The Cardinals took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI double from Mendoza.

In his next at-bat, Mendoza drove in a run on a sacrifice fly to bring the score to 2-0 in the top of the third. Later in the inning, the Vaqueros got on the board to bring the score to 2-1.

After two scoreless innings, the Vaqueros tied the game up at 2-2 in the sixth on an RBI single.

UIW would take a commanding 8-2 lead behind a six-run seventh inning.
Hernan Yanez singled through the left side of the infield to get the scoring started. Mendoza then scored on a bases-loaded walk.
Cameron Crotte was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to drive a run in. On a wild pitch, Yanez scored and
Tony DeJesus would clear the bases on a two-run double to cap off the half inning.

UTRGV wouldn't go down without a fight, scoring three runs in the seventh to bring the score to 8-5. The Vaqueros then went on to score four runs in the bottom of the fifth to take their first lead, 9-8.

The Cardinals left the tying run on base in the ninth to end the game with a final score of 9-8.
