NATCHITOCHES – After allowing the Demons to tie the game up in the bottom of the eighth, the University of the Incarnate Word baseball team defeated Northwestern State University, 11-5, Friday night at Brown-Stroud Field. 

Rey Mendoza, Cameron Crotte, and Warren Laster all combined for two hits to lead the Cardinals offensively. Crotte drove in three runs in the win while Mendoza drove in two.  

Mendoza got the scoring started in the top of the first on an RBI single up the middle to give the Cardinals the early 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, the Demons tied the game up on a solo home run, tying the game at 1-1. 

Tony DeJesus singled in a run in the second to allow the Cardinals to retake the lead, 2-1.  

The Demons tied the game up at 2-2 in the home half of the third on a single to right-center field.  

 Alec Carr hit his tenth home run of the season in the fourth to give the Cardinals a 3-2 lead. 

After three scoreless innings, Crotte singled in two runs on a single to right field to extend UIW's lead to 5-2. Later in the inning, the Demons tied the game up on an RBI single and a two-run double to bring the score to 5-5 entering the ninth inning.  

After a scoreless ninth, the Cardinals would score six runs in the tenth to take a commanding 11-5 lead. An RBI single by Crotte gave UIW a 6-5 lead. The Cardinals would go on to draw four bases-loaded walks and an HBP to drive in five insurance runs. The Demons would go down in order in the tenth to finish off the game.
