SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team fell to Lamar University, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon at Sullivan Field, sponsored by H-E-B. Although it ended with a loss, the Cardinals still walked away with a 2-1 series win.
Jimmy De Leon, Sterling Sutcliffe, and Warren Laster recorded a hit each in the loss. Laster drove in the Cardinal's only run of the afternoon.
Lamar scored the game's first two runs in the top of the first, scoring on a throwing error and a sacrifice fly to give them the early 2-0 lead.
Lamar added to its lead in the top of the second on a groundout to extend the lead to 3-0.
UIW got on the board in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by Laster, to bring the score to 3-1.
Lamar quickly responded in the top of the sixth, driving in two runs to extend the lead to 5-1.
After two scoreless innings, Lamar added a run in the top of the ninth to bring the score to 6-1. UIW would go down in order in the bottom of the ninth, to end the game with a final score of 6-1.
