SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team defeated the University of Louisiana Monroe (ULM) 12-4 to secure the first sweep of the season at Sullivan field, sponsored by H-E-B Sunday afternoon. 

Hernan Yanez and Alec Carr led the Cardinals in hits with three. Carr also led the team in RBIs with six and in runs scored with three.  

The Warhawks struck early with a solo shot over the right field wall to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.  

Carr gave the Cardinals their first lead with a two-run home run to bring the score to 2-1 at the end of two. 

ULM tied it up at 2-2 in the top of the third, scoring on a bases loaded wild pitch. The tie would be short-lived as the Cardinals hung six runs on the Warhawks in the home half of the third. Carr smashed his second homer of the day, a three-run shot to break the tie. Joe Jimenez would later hit a two-run homer, and Wilson Ehrhardt would finish things off with an RBI bloop single into right field to bring the score to 8-2.  

The Cardinals drove in four more runs in the fourth to extend their lead to 12-2. Yanez started things off on a two-run double. Carr picked up his sixth RBI of the afternoon on a double off the second base bag, and Ehrhardt drove in his second RBI on a single through the right side of the infield.  

The Warhawks got back on the board in the sixth, courtesy of a solo homer to bring the score to 12-3.  

ULM made it a 12-4 game in the top of the eighth on a solo home run over the left field wall.   

The score would remain the same the rest of the way to give the Cardinals the 12-4 win.
