SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team picked up a midweek game win over Prairie View A&M University, 6-2, on Tuesday evening at Sullivan Field, sponsored by H-E-B.
Rey Mendoza led the Cardinals in hits with three and in RBIs with two on the night. On the mound, Carson Rollins picked up the win pitching 6.2 innings, allowing just five hits and two earned runs while striking out five.
The Cardinals took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Mendoza.
UIW extended its lead in the bottom of the second on a two-run single by Grant Randall.
The Panthers got on the board in the top of the fourth on a solo home run, bringing the score to 3-1.
PVAMU added a run to bring the score to 3-2 in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly. Later in the inning, Mendoza extended the Cardinal's lead to 4-2 on an RBI single.
The Cardinals picked up some insurance runs in the home half of the eighth to extend their lead to 6-2. Wilson Ehrhardt picked up an RBI single and Randall scored on an error.
