SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team clinched its first conference series win this season with a 7-6 victory over Houston Christian University on Saturday afternoon at Sullivan Field, sponsored by H-E-B to take a 2-0 lead.
Wilson Ehrhardt, Jimmy De Leon, and Jared Rhodes led the Cardinals in hits with two. Ehrhardt led the team in RBIs with two in the win.
The Huskies took the early lead, scoring two runs in the top of the first to go up 2-0.
Ehrhardt sent a two-run homer over the right field wall in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 2-2.
The Cardinals would extend their lead in the bottom of the fourth on an error and RBI single to go up 4-2.
After two scoreless innings, the Huskies tied the game up at 4-4 in the top of the seventh on a two-run single. Later in the inning, De Leon doubled to left field to give the Cardinals the 5-4 lead.
The Huskies retook the lead in the top of the eighth on a two-run double off the left field wall, bringing the score to 6-5. Later in the inning, the Cardinals scored two runs on a bases-loaded walk and a HBP to take a 7-6 lead.
The Huskies would go down in order in the top of the ninth to end the game.
