STEPHENVILLE – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team fell to Tarleton State University, 10-6, on Friday night.
Alec Carr led the Cardinals with two hits, and Rey Mendoza led the team in RBIs with two.
The Cardinals took the early lead going up 2-0 in the top of the first. Mendoza drove in a run on a bases loaded walk, and Hernan Yanez drove in a run on a fielder's choice.
The Texans tied the game up in the bottom of the third at 2-2 on a two-run triple.
Daniel Calabrese gave the Cardinals the lead on a fielder's choice to give the Cardinals a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth.
Wilson Ehrhardt extended the Cardinals lead to 4-2 in the top of the sixth on a sacrifice fly before the Texans took their first lead in the bottom of the inning, going up 5-4.
Sam Tormos tied the game up in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly to make the score 5-5. In the bottom of the seventh, the Texans retook the lead, going up 9-5.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Texans added a run to extend their lead to 10-5.
In the top of the ninth, the Cardinals added a run to bring the final score to 10-6.
