PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team defeated Prairie View A&M University 5-4, on Tuesday afternoon, at Tankersley Field.
Alec Carr and JImmy De Leon led the Cardinals in hits with two each. Carr also led the team in RBIs with two. Larry Westall picked up his first win of the season, allowing one run on two hits in two innings of relief.
The Panthers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, putting up runs in each of the first two innings.
Carr tied the game up in the top of the third on a two-run homer over the left field fence. Later in the inning, Hernan Yanez scored on an error to give the Cardinals their first lead of the game.
The Cardinals added two insurance runs in the top of the sixth to extend their lead to 5-2. Grant Randall drove in the inning's first run on an RBI triple to right-center field. Daniel Calabrese later drove in Randall on a sacrifice fly to center field.
The Panthers added runs in the sixth and eighth innings to pull within one but couldn't complete the comeback.
