SAN ANTONIO - The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team fell to Texas State University (TXST) on Tuesday night, 12-8, at Sullivan field, sponsored by H-E-B.
Daniel Calabrese, Alec Carr, Rey Mendoza, and Jimmy De Leon led the team in hits with two each.
The Bobcats started the scoring early in the first with a two-run homer to take a 2-0 lead. In the home half of the first, Alec Carr crushed a two-run homer over the left-center field wall to tie the game up at 2-2.
After a scoreless top of the third, Daniel Calabrese took advantage of two throwing errors by the Bobcats' defense to give the Cardinals a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the inning.
In the top of the fifth, the Bobcats drove in three runs on two hits to retake the lead at 5-3.
The Bobcats broke open the game in the top of the sixth, driving across six runs to extend their lead to 11-3. Later in the inning, the Cardinals added three runs to cut into the deficit. De Leon drove in the first run on a double down the right-field line. Joe Jimenez followed with a sacrifice fly to right field, and De Leon rounded out the scoring on a passed ball, bringing the score to 11-6.
In the top of the seventh, the Bobcats left the bases loaded, but not before driving in one to extend their lead to 12-6. In the home half of the seventh, Rey Mendoza drove in a run on an RBI single up the middle. Hernan Yanez followed by smacking an RBI double down the left-field line to bring the score to 12-8.
