DAYTONA BEACH, Fl. – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team fell on the road in Daytona Beach to Bethune-Cookman 96-82 on Friday night.
The game started how it usually does for the Cardinals. UIW was out to an early lead with
Sky Wicks and
Josiah Hammons leading in scoring with five points apiece, but the Wildcats were able to stick around by forcing five turnovers in just the first 10 minutes of the game.
Bethune-Cookman was aggressive through the remainder of the first half forcing nine more turnovers. That aggressive led to the Cardinals earning 14 free-throws. As a team UIW shot 92 percent knocking down 13 of 14 free-throws and
Josh Morgan led the Cards with 12 points, seven of those coming from the line. The teams went into the break tied at 40.
The Cardinals struggled coming out of the break as the Wildcats went on a 10-2 run.
Josiah Hammons took over the scoring for UIW with 12 points. However, it was not enough for UIW and Bethune-Cookman was able to stave off a few Cardinals second-half runs winning the game 96-82.
