SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team started off the 2023-24 season with a 68-40 victory over Our Lady of the Lake University during a midday matchup on Tuesday morning.
Thirteen Cardinals saw action against the Saints.
Chloe Storer led the way with 12 points, while
Aliyah Collins added 10 points and six rebounds.
The Cardinals and Saints game out the gates slow, keeping the contest close through the first quarter with a narrow 17-14 UIW lead.
Midway through the second, OLLU had only scored one field goal as the Cardinals took a 31-16 lead, knocking down 12 straight field goals on the Saints. The Cardinal defense stood strong, allowing only a single 3-pointer and two free throws through the entire second quarter to head into the locker room up, 40-19.
UIW continued to dominate on all facets of the box score, finishing the game with 27 points off OLLU turnovers and 30 paint points to the Saints' 14. On the boards, the Cardinals totaled 18 offensive rebounds. Defensively, OLLU was held to zero fast break points.
The Cardinals are back at the McDermott Center this Sunday, November 12 to face New Mexico State University at 1 p.m.
