SAN ANTONIO – New Mexico State University held off the University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team on Sunday in a tight matchup between the Cardinals and Aggies where NMSU came out on top, 59-52, at the McDermott Center.
UIW left several points at the free-throw line, going 16-for-29 on the day.
Aliyah Collins finished with 10 points, five assists, and three steals.
Destiny Terrell added seven points, seven rebounds, and four steals.
The Aggies went on a 7-0 run late in the first to end the quarter with a 13-6 lead. The Cardinals found their footing in the second quarter, outscoring New Mexico State University 19-17 to come within five before heading into the locker room (30-25).
UIW pulled within three (34-31) following a pair of free throws from Collins two minutes into the second quarter. The Cardinals continued to wear down the Aggies coming within five points on several possessions throughout the remainder of the game, but New Mexico State narrowly held off the Cardinals 59-52.
