PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – A career-high night from forward
Chloe Storer led the University of the Incarnate Word to a 57-44 victory over Prairie View A&M University on Monday night. Storer finished with a double-double behind 20 points and 10 rebounds, shooting 8-for-10 from the floor.
The first quarter was a slow start for the Cardinals and the Panthers. A three-point play by Storer in the paint, followed by a 3-pointer from
Jorja Elliott put UIW up 6-0 just over a minute into the game. Free throws kept the Cardinals ahead, but the next field goal came six minutes later with a layup from Storer. UIW's defense kept the Panthers at bay with a 15-8 lead to end the first.
PVAMU went on a five-minute scoring drought in the second as the Cardinal defense allowed zero field goals and only four free throws, helping UIW jump out to an 11-point lead (25-14). The Panthers cut the score to 29-21 at the half, with 13 first-half points from Storer keeping UIW in the lead.
The Panthers snuck within four points of the Cardinals in the second half, but an 11-0 UIW run in the fourth sealed the 57-44 win for UIW.
