SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team lost both of their games in the annual Roadrunner/Cardinal Classic. Losing to UTSA on Saturday afternoon 80-90 and dropping a close one to Jacksonville State 67-65 on Sunday.
 
The Cardinals were in it early, forcing four steals and scoring nine points in transition in the first 10 minutes of the game. UIW faltered in the remaining minutes of the half with the field goal percentage dropping to 36 percent and only 25 percent from three. Despite the struggle, the Cardinals and Roadrunners went into the half tied at 33.
 
In the second half UIW was outscored 57-47, with the biggest factor being the rebounds (24-13) and second chance points (14-3). The Cardinals fell by a score of 90-80.
 
The Cardinals made some changes to the starting lineup in the next game, with Josh Morgan and Marcus Glover being added. The teams were going back and forth, four ties and seven lead changes in the first half. Jacksonville State went on a 15-4 run which was started by three straight 3-pointers from Kyky Tandy, giving the Gamecocks the biggest lead of the game 36-24. UIW continued to trail into the half, 38-29.
 
UIW came out the half playing well. Going a perfect nine for nine from the free-throw line, the Cardinals were able to chip away at the lead. Elijah Davis scored 14 points in the second half and with just under eight minutes left in the game converted and and-one to tie that game at 54.
 
UIW continued to battle down the stretch, but ran out of time and fell to Jacksonville state 67-65.
