SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team won its first home game of the season 104-63 against Schreiner University, Tuesday night in the McDermott Center. This is the first win for Shane Heirman as a Division I head coach.
10 different players scored for the Cardinals. They were led by
Sky Wicks who recorded another double-double with 29 points and 14 rebounds,
Shon Robinson added 21 points and eight rebounds.
The Cardinals started the game strong, getting out to a 17-0 lead in just the first six minutes of the game. UIW had three different players score in double figures in the first half,
Josh Morgan with 12,
Shon Robinson with 14, and
Sky Wicks with 18. After 20 minutes of play the Cardinals led the Mountaineers 56-24.
The second half was closer than the first. The Mountaineers were able to keep the point differential to only five through the first 10 minutes, as the Cardinals only outscored SU 23-18.
Midway through the second half
Josiah Hammons started a 13-6 run for the Cardinals after knocking down three straight 3-pointers extending the UIW to 92-49. UIW was able to ride that momentum through the rest of the game, winning 104-63.
