SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team fell to Tarleton State University (TSU), 14-6, on Tuesday night at Sullivan Field, sponsored by H-E-B.
Roberto Gonzalez tallied two hits for his twelfth game in a row with a hit. The two teams recorded nine home runs on the night.
Taylor Darden launched his first homer this season to bring in two runners, then
Grant Smith followed suite with another two-RBI home run to left field (4-0).
In the second, the Texans scored one run, but
Joey Baran tagged out the second runner at home to keep the score at 4-1.
TSU scored twelve runs through the third, fourth and fifth innings to take a 13-4 advantage.
Smith smacked an RBI double in the fifth to bring the score to 13-5. The Texans tried to bring another run home in the sixth but once more, UIW tagged out the runner at home.
Nixon Brannan hit his first home run of the season in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to 13-6.
Tarleton scored once more in the ninth inning to take the game, 14-6.
UP NEXT
The Cardinals travel to McNeese State University for a three-game series beginning on Thursday, April 14, and ending on Saturday, April 16.
