CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team opened Southland Conference play at the University of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (TAMUCC) on Friday night at Chapman field. The Cardinals fell to the Islanders, 12-2.
Roberto Gonzalez notched two hits on the night, while
Jimmy De Leon and
Reid Hensley each finished with an RBI.
The Islanders scored four runs in the first three innings before the Cardinals tacked on two in the top of the fourth to cut the lead to 4-2.
Wilson Ehrhardt hit a leadoff single to right field, then stole second base. A single from
Alec Carr advanced Ehrhardt to third before Hensley brought in Ehrhardt. An RBI single from De Leon capped off the fourth frame.
TAMUCC closed out the game with eight runs over the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to win game one.
