COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The University of the Incarnate Word's track and field team traveled to College Station, Texas, to compete in the Ted Nelson Invitational to open the 2022 season. The Cardinals placed first in various events throughout the two-day meet.
"When I compare this season opener to others in the past, I'm very pleased with how everyone kept a level head throughout the competition and competed hard," said head coach Derek Riedel. "We talked about focusing on the controllables such as attitude, effort, behavior and actions and I challenged everyone to work hard to focus only on what they could control and come out with a strong effort to open the season. They did just that and I think the solid results we had were a direct result of each athlete being excited to open the season and kick off 2022 in the most successful fashion possible. I'm excited to see how we continue to develop and move forward toward our goals!"
