UIW Football Travels to San Marcos, Texas to Face Texas State

SAN ANTONIO – University of the Incarnate Word's football team travels to San Marcos to face the Bobcats of Texas State University (TXST) on Saturday, Sept. 18 at 6 p.m. in an ESPN3 televised game. Saturday will be the second showing between the two teams in program history. (1-0, TXST)

  • University of the Incarnate Word football is coming off a 40-9 victory against Prairie View A&M for their home opener of the 2021 season.
  • The Cardinals have scored 40 plus points in both games this season. (44-41 YSU)
  • Cameron Ward completed 208 passing yards. Kevin Brown led the team in rushing yards with 51, followed by Marcus Cooper with 47. Taylor Grimes, CJ Hardy, Roger McCuller and Brown all tallied a touchdown in the Saturday evening victory.
  • Defensively, Kelechi Anyalebechi led the team with 11 tackles followed by Brandon Bowen's seven total tackles. Kaleb Culp collected one sack.
  • The Cardinal offense and defense look to continue their momentum into this weekend taking on an FBA program like the Bobcats.

  • Texas State football is coming off a 23-17 overtime victory against Florida International University.
  • The Bobcats' Brock Sturges led the team rushing for 43 yards, including the game winning 11-yard touchdown in overtime.
  • Defensively Texas States' Zion Childress led the way forcing a fumble in two key parts of the game two weeks in a row.
  • In overtime, Caeveon Patton recovered the football after a fumble forced by Issiah Nixon, ending FIU's overtime possession.

  • Texas State's quarterback, Brady McBride has completed 321 passing yards and two touchdowns in the two games played thus far.
  • UIW's Kevin Brown has rushed for 169 yards and three touchdowns on the season. His best game was the season opener against Youngstown State when Brown rushed for 118 yards and two touchdowns.Ā 
  • Texas State's running back, Calvin Hill leads the team with 103 total yards. Brock Sturges leads the team with two touchdowns on the season.Ā 
  • UIW's Kelechi Anyalebechi has tallied 19 total tackles and two sacks on the season. Anyalebechi's two sacks and two interceptions in the matchup against Prairie View A&M was a season best.
  • Texas State's Troy Lefeged Jr. leads the team with 17 total tackles. Issiah Nixon leads the team with one sack so far.
