SAN ANTONIO – University of the Incarnate Word women's tennis coach
Tom Rees announced the addition of former University of Illinois-Springfield and Kansas State volunteer assistant coach Logan Burgess Hayes as the UIW women's tennis graduate assistant coach.
Burgess Hayes, a four-year letterwinner at UIS, completed his collegiate career for the Prairie Stars in the 2018-19 season. After playing at UIS, Burgess Hayes was hired as an assistant coach for the Prairie Stars in 2019, and spent the last two seasons as a volunteer coach at Kansas State along with Rees on the Wildcats' coaching staff.
"I am very pleased that Logan will be joining us at UIW," Rees said. "He is an exciting, up-and-coming coach in our industry. Having played for me and coached with me, he knows what to expect, buys into our core values and expectations, and will be able to hit the ground running."
While on the Kansas State staff, Burgess Hayes helped the Wildcats to the No. 38 ranking in the college polls. Burgess Hayes aided the Wildcats to an 8-4 overall record in the 2019-20 season and a 7-12 record in 2020-21.
Playing at the No. 2 spot during his senior season, Burgess Hayes posted an 11-12 record in singles competition while tacking on a 14-9 mark in doubles play.
During the 2018-19 season, Burgess Hayes was one of two seniors that would guide UIS to its best season in program history with a 13-5 record while helping the team to a No. 36 ranking in the national polls and No. 8 regionally. for the first time during the NCAA era at UIS.
Burgess Hayes totaled identical records in both singles and doubles play with a 45-36 records in both categories.
"Logan is a hard worker and a keen learner. He has been instrumental in the success of every program he has been a part of as a player or coach. I have no doubt he will be a phenomenal role model for our student-athletes and a great ambassador for the program in the community." Rees said.
A native of Brighton, England, Burgess Hayes achieved a No. 1,744 ITF ranking competing in Europe in 2014. Burgess Hayes picked up victories at the Brighton Winter Open, Woodford Wells Open and Devonshire Park Open, which accumulated to a 2.1 rating in the British National System during his time on the ITF Tour.
