SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team returns home to Sullivan Field, sponsored by H-E-B, to face Prairie View A&M in Tuesday night non-conference action on April 6 at 6:30 p.m. (CT).
UIW is looking to have a bounce-back game after dropping three-of-four on the road last weekend at SFA. The Cardinals are 11-1 all-time against the Panthers and are currently on a six-game win streak dating back to Feb. 22, 2017.

UIW QUICK HITS
- UIW placed three student-athletes on the Southland Conference Preseason All-Conference teams. Ryan Flores earned first team honors for the second year in a row, while Lee Thomas and Grant Smith were selected for the second team.
- UIW is currently third in the conference and 96th in the country in scoring averaging 6.3 runs per game.
- Thomas leads the Cardinals' offense with a .312 batting average and .571 slugging percentage with a team-high 24 hits, four triples and 20 RBIs. Thomas' four triples is the second-best mark in the country.
- Flores (21), Smith (21) and Zach Limas also join Thomas with more than 20 hits this season.
- Michael McElmeel and Drew Minter lead the Cardinals' pitching staff with 1.93 and 2.45 ERAs, respectively. Michael Garza leads the staff with 37 strikeouts. Aaron Celestino, Isaiah Zavala and Carson Rollins are all tied with 20 Ks.
HISTORY vs. PRAIRIE VIEW A&M
- UIW is 11-1 all-time against PVAMU. The Cardinals defeated the Panthers, 14-3, in their last meeting on April 30, 2019.
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
- Prairie View A&M is 3-11 overall this season. The Panthers last played on March 19, a 5-2 win at Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
- Brayden Johnson (.325), Andrew Garcia (.308) and Xavier Jefferson (.303) lead the Panthers in the box. Johnson leads the team with 13 hits and three doubles and Jefferson leads the team with two triples.
- Starting pitcher, Roberto Maldonado holds an 11.68 ERA in 12 1/3 innings pitched, giving up 21 hits and second on the PVAMU pitching staff with 16 Ks this season.
- Kyle Smith leads the pitching staff with 30 2/3 innings pitched this season with a team-high 23 Ks and a .263 opponent batting average.
