SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team defeated the Saints of Our Lady of the Lake University, 93-66, on Wednesday night in the McDermott Center.  
 
Freshman Benjamin Griscti led the Cardinals with a career-best 30-point performance, 24 of which came from behind the arc. Drew Lutz followed with 20 points. Johnny Hughes III registered a double-double on the night with 16 points and 15 rebounds.
 
The Cardinals came out strong against the Saints when Hughes went up for a statement dunk. Lutz led UIW with 15 points in the first half, while Griscti was hot beyond the arc, sinking four three-pointers before the break. RJ Glasper ended the first half on a high note, hitting a pull-up jumper to extend the Cardinal lead to nine (48-39).
 
Griscti got the Cardinals started in the second half with a strong drive to the basket to spark the offense, while Hughes used another strong dunk to keep the momentum going. Griscti knocked down back-to-back threes for UIW to push the game out of reach for the Saints, extending the lead to 78-51.
 
Dylan Hayman entered the game and connected with Griscti for an alley-oop, while Thomas Zevgaras came in and immediately added to the Cardinal offense with a strong drive to the basket. Glasper ended the night putting a free throw through the net for the final score of 93-66 in favor of UIW.
 
"I was happy for the fellas. They were locked in defensively and it led to a strong offense. Coach Dial does a great job at OLLU, and his team played really hard. They're dangerous. We are grateful for the win and will learn from this one and get ready for the next battle," said head coach Dr. Carson Cunningham.
 
UP NEXT
The Cardinals travel to Abilene, Texas, to face Abilene Christian University on Saturday, Dec. 4. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
