UIW Women’s Tennis Inks Four Future Cardinals

SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's tennis team signed four freshmen on Wednesday, November 10. Gargi Pawar will compete in the Spring of 2022, Ine Lamprecht and Amelie Montalvo will join the Cardinal family in the Fall of 2022 and Estefania Gonzalez will enroll in the Spring of 2023. 
 
Gargi Pawar
  • Comes to UIW from Pune, India where she attended Ashti Public School
  • Won two International Tennis Federation (ITF) J5 Doubles Tournaments in 2021
  • First in U12, U14, U16 age groups in Indian National Rankings
  • Highest Universal Tennis Rating (UTR): 10.09
  • Career high ITF Junior Ranking: 734
"GG brings a positive attitude, infectious energy, and a strong international playing resume to the squad this spring," head coach Tom Rees said. "We expect her to have an immediate impact in the lineup and we can't wait to get to work with her in January."
 
Ine Lamprecht
  • Comes to UIW from Pretoria, South Africa where she attended Die Hoerskool Menlopark
  • Current South African National Champion in Singles & Doubles
  • Runner-Up in the 2019 South African Junior Masters
  • Won three ITF Junior Doubles Titles
  • Ranked fifth in South African National Singles and second in National Doubles
  • Highest UTR: 9.18
  • Career high ITF Junior Ranking: 646
"It has been clear through our recruiting process with Ine, that we are getting a high-quality person, student, and tennis player," Rees said. "As a national champion in South Africa, she will have an immediate positive impact on all aspects of the program, and we are very much looking forward to working with her for the next four years."
 
Amelie Montalvo
  • Originally from Merida, Mexico, Montalvo played at the Nobis Pacem Academy
  • Won the 2020 ITF J4 Tampico Doubles Title
  • Ranked fifth in Mexican National Singles and first in the Yukatan State Ranking
  • Highest UTR: 9.49
  • Career high ITF Junior Ranking: 458
  • Career high ITF Professional Ranking: 2143
"Amelie is somebody we have recruited since day one. She is an incredibly driven player who fights for every point," Rees said. "Her ambitions align with ours, making this a great fit for both parties. Amelie always wears a smile and will fit in perfectly with the culture of excellence we are building."

Estefania Gonzalez 
  • Comes to UIW from Florida Virtual School in Doral, Florida
  • Won 2017 U14 Eddie Herr Doubles Title 
  • Represented Venezuela in the 2017 ITF World Junior Championships 
  • Won the 2016 ITF Montego Bay Doubles Title 
  • USA National Singles Ranking: 134
  • State of Florida Ranking: 12 
  • Highest UTR: 9.91
  • Career high ITF Junior Ranking: 559
"This is a statement signing for us. Estefania is an incredibly gifted player, who demonstrates resilience & strength in everything she does. She has a great all court game, loves to play doubles & we expect her to have an immediate impact in the lineup. A great day for the program," Rees said.
