UIW (7-17, 4-9 SLC) is tied with UNO (7-17, 3-11 SLC) in head-to-head matchups, 4-4, after defeating the Privateers, 73-70, on Jan. 11.
BALENTINE'S DAY
Against Northwestern State,
Des Balentine scored 14 points to go along with seven rebounds, two assists and two steals as he continued his hot streak over the last couple of weeks. The redshirt junior has now scored in double-figures in five consecutive games and recorded at least five rebounds in three out of the last four matchups.
THE WILLIS WAY
Keaston Willis added 13 points to go along with two rebounds, three assists and a steal. Wednesday marked the 16th time the freshman guard has scored in double-digits, a team best.
GRITTY GUARDS
Augustine Ene and
Dwight Murray Jr. combined for 21 points, four made 3-pointers, two rebounds and two steals in the loss Wednesday.
HOT STREAK
The Cardinals are averaging 71.2 points in their last five games, going 3-2 over that stretch.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
- The Privateers are 7-17 on the season and 3-11 in SLC play, currently looking to put an end their two-game losing streak.
- New Orleans shoots the ball efficiently from all areas on the court, boasting a league-best 76.5 percent at the free-throw line, a top-5 field goal percentage at 46 percent, and the sixth-best 3-point percentage at 34.5 percent.
- The Privateers struggle on the glass, however, ranking last in rebounds per game with 31.54.
- Moving the ball and limiting turnovers is one of New Orleans' biggest strengths. The Privateers average a fifth-best 14.75 assists per game and rank third in the SLC in assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.04.
- Bryson Robinson is the top-scoring option for the Privateers, leading the team with 18.3 points per game and 73 made 3-pointers.
- Troy Green has emerged as a scoring threat during conference play, averaging 14.4 points per game over his last five contests.
