SAN ANTONIO – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's rigid defense prevented the University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team from overcoming an early deficit, leading to a 64-38 loss for the Cardinals on Saturday afternoon at the McDermott Center.

The Islanders jumped out in front in the first quarter as the Cardinals struggled to score, putting up just four points, being held to their lowest scoring quarter since the matchup against Central Arkansas (when).

UIW worked to cut the lead in the second quarter, more than tripling their point total from the first, but A&M-Corpus Christi put up 16 points of their own and took a 28-19 lead going into halftime.

The Islanders extended their lead in the third quarter, shooting 83.3 percent from the field and adding another 25 points.

The deficit proved too much for the Cardinals to overcome in the fourth quarter, being held to single digits eventually falling to the Islanders, 64-38.
