Robinson, Henry lead UIW to comfortable 67-48 victory over Lamar

BEAUMONT, Texas – The University of the Incarnate Word Women's basketball team took down Lamar on Wednesday night at the Montagne Center, 67-48.

UIW picked up its second win on the road and first ever against Lamar, with its largest margin of victory in Southland Conference play since a 17-point margin against McNeese at home last week.

The Cardinals took an early lead in the first quarter off of six points by Lunden Henry. UIW was unable to score on back-to-back possessions that allowed Lamar to close the gap and get within two points at the end of the first quarter.

Victoria Jackson got the team going early in the second quarter, sinking a three that allowed the Cardinals to maintain the lead. Solid defense on the backcourt allowed UIW to extend their lead, 34-27, going into the break.

The Cardinals were relentless in the third quarter, shooting 60 percent from the field led by senior guard Imani Robinson's six points in the period. UIW's efficient shooting and solid defense held Lamar to only four points, giving the Cardinals their largest lead of the game, 56-31, heading into the home stretch.

Lamar made a final push in the fourth quarter starting with a 13-4 run, but the deficit proved too much and UIW took home the win.

On the offense…
"Offensively, our ball movement was really good for the entire game. On several possessions we had some great finishes whether it was a two pointer around the rim or in some cases some threes very late in the shot clock. It shows the poise that we exhibited."
