SAN ANTONIO -- The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team hosts its first home game of the 2019 season on Friday, as the Cardinals face off against Prairie View A&M University. The match is set for 5 p.m. CT at Benson Stadium.
THE GAME
CARDINALS IN THE NEST
The Cardinals come into this homestand off two tough dropped decision games this past weekend (Aug. 30 & Sept. 1). UIW's aggressiveness during the games, though, brought about improved cohesion between the squad.
In the match facing Texas Southern (Sept. 1), sophomore forward
Keeley Ayala took 10 of the team's 29 total shots in 90 minutes of play. That, along with a penalty kick goal and a clutch man-on pressured goal, earned her Southland Conference Player of the Week Honorable Mention. Junior
Cailey Croson also earned this accolade in the goalkeeper category for her skills as the last line of defense in the net.
UIW will keep this energy up as they move into Friday night's match, looking to net more against the Lady Panthers. In their last faceoff, the Cardinals held advantage in the number of shots put off, as well as the number of saves in goal. The game ended with
Cloe Morales slamming a clutch goal in the PVAMU net.
SCOUTING THE PVAMU LADY PANTHERS
PVAMU travels to UIW with a similar pre-conference play standing of 0-3. Last time out, facing the Cowgirls of McNeese State, the Lady Panthers allowed three goals off of 12 shots, nine of which were on goal.
UP NEXT
On Sept. 8, the Cardinals are set to host North Texas at Benson Stadium, with kickoff at 1 p.m. (CT).
