FRISCO, Texas -- University of the Incarnate Word volleyball sophomore
Bethany Clapp has been selected to the 2019 Preseason All-Southland Conference Volleyball first team, announced the league office Thursday. Clapp returns to the court as the reigning SLC Freshman of the Year. She also earned first team honors in 2018.
Â
Clapp had a team-high 324 kills in her first season in black and red, marking the most kills by a UIW student-athlete in their freshman season in DI program history. 324 kills was also the second most by any Cardinal attacker in DI history.
Â
Clapp finished the season with 3.41 kills per set, the best among freshman in the conference and fourth best overall. She tallied an .824 hitting percentage in a win over Alcorn State (Sept. 15), which was the best attacking percentage for a single match in the conference and the fourth most efficient match in the nation (minimum of 15 attempts).
Â
The Corpus Christi, Texas, native delivered 119 kills in her last seven conference matches (3.97 kills/set), guiding UIW to a 5-2 record over that stretch. She notched double-digit kills in 18 of her 26 matches including each of her last seven appearances.
Â
Defensively, Clapp recorded 190 digs. She finished the season with seven double-doubles.
