SAN ANTONIO -- The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team fell, 5-4, against Central Arkansas on Saturday afternoon at Daniel Sullivan Field, sponsored by H-E-B.
NOTABLES
- Antonio Valdez led the team with a 3-for-5 outing, including a run.
- Sean Arnold extended his reached-base streak to 42 games. He notched a hit and a walk.
- Luke Taggart (7-4) suffered the loss, striking out eight in 7.0 innings pitched.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless first inning, the Cardinals scored a run on a
Ridge Rogers RBI triple in the second to give them an early 1-0 lead.
The Bears then scattered four runs across the third and fourth innings to take a 4-1 advantage, but UIW fought back.
Taylor Smith scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 4-2, still in favor of Central Arkansas.
The Bears plated a run in the top of the seventh to extend their advantage to 5-2.
UIW gained momentum in the bottom of the eighth, scoring two runs on a
Ryan Flores RBI single and an
Eddy Gonzalez RBI sacrifice fly, but the rally fell short as Central Arkansas secured the 5-4 victory.
