UIW’s Moran selected for NCAA postgraduate scholarship

SAN ANTONIO -- University of the Incarnate Word men's swimming's former student-athlete Aaron Moran was awarded an NCAA postgraduate scholarship, announced UIW on Tuesday. The scholarship is a one-time, non-renewable amount of $10,000 for use in an accredited graduate program.

"We are all thrilled with Aaron's award," said UIW head swimming coach Phil Davis. "I've had a lot of outstanding people swim and dive for me during my career, and Aaron Moran is at the top of that list. Besides being an exceptional swimmer, he excelled as a student in the classroom and was a great leader through SAAC and other service opportunities. Aaron has a unique ability to inspire those around him to work hard, and I'm excited to see what he does next."

Moran graduated on May 11 with a double major, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Statistics as well as a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, with a minor in Actuarial Science and Computer Information Systems. He was the 2018-19 Student Athletic Advisory Counsel (SAAC) president, the SAAC secretary in 2017-18, and was a SAAC representative in 2016-17.

"I am humbled and honored to receive the NCAA postgraduate scholarship award after my five-year career at UIW," said Moran. "My time at UIW has been an experience that will shape me for a lifetime, and I am forever grateful for the opportunities that I received while attending this great university. The UIW Athletic Department is on the right path to celebrating many more student-athletes who have what it takes to receive this award in the years to come."

Moran was a captain of the men's swimming team from the fall 2016 through the spring 2019, and he earned Dean's list honors each semester of his undergraduate career (fall 2014-spring 2019). Additionally, the Helotes, Texas, native is a member of the San Antonio Math Scholars Program. Following graduation, he plans to get a master's degree in Business Administration with a focus in Data Analytics & Finance.

The NCAA awards up to 126 postgraduate scholarships annually.  The scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are at least in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition.
