SAN ANTONIO -- The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 9-3, on Sunday afternoon to complete the series sweep at Daniel Sullivan Field, sponsored by H-E-B.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Lions plated a run in the top of the first to take an early 1-0 lead in the series finale, but the Cardinals answered in the bottom of the frame. A Flores solo home run and an E. Gonzalez RBI triple gave UIW a 2-1 advantage.
The Cardinals extended their lead in the bottom of the second when Rogers scored on a R. Gonzalez triple to put UIW up, 3-1. The Cardinals added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth when R. Gonzalez doubled to drive in two, giving UIW a 5-1 advantage.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff plated a run in the top of the sixth, but UIW responded with three runs of its own -- a RBI double by Arnold and a two-RBI double by Flores -- in the bottom of the frame to make the score 8-2, still in favor of the Cardinals.
UIW extended its advantage to 9-2 on a
Lee Thomas solo home run in the bottom of the seventh. The Golden Lions plated a run in the top of the eighth, but the Cardinals secured the 9-3 victory.
