SAN ANTONIO -- The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team fell, 8-6, to Houston Baptist in the series finale on Saturday afternoon at Daniel Sullivan Field, sponsored by H-E-B.
 
NOTABLES

• Sean Arnold extended his reached-base streak to 35 games. He had two hits with two RBI and a run.
• Eddy Gonzalez led the Cardinals with a 3-for-4 outing, including three RBI, two doubles and a run.
• Antonio Valdez, Ryan Flores and Shea Gutierrez also contributed two hits apiece.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cardinals scored first in the bottom of the first frame when Arnold came home on an E. Gonzalez sacrifice fly to give UIW the 1-0 lead. The Huskies answered in the top of the third, scoring a run to tie the game at 1-1. 
 
HBU then scored five runs in the top of the third to take a 6-1 advantage, but the Cardinals fought back. UIW scored two runs on an E. Gonzalez RBI double in the third and a Tyler Pettit sacrifice fly in the fourth to cut HBU's lead to 6-3.
 
The Huskies plated two runs in the fifth inning to extend their lead to 8-3, but UIW mounted a rally. The Cardinals scored three runs across the seventh and eighth innings (a Ryan Gonzalez RBI triple to left field and a Lee Thomas single to right field in the seventh, and an E. Gonzalez groundout in the eighth), but the comeback fell short and HBU held on to secure the 8-6 victory.
