SAN MARCOS, Texas -- The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team fell, 7-4, to Texas State on Wednesday night at Bobcat Ballpark.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bobcats opened the scoring first, plating two runs in the third frame to take a 2-0 lead, but the Cardinals quickly responded in the top of the fourth. UIW scored three runs on four hits -- including an RBI single from
Taylor Smith and a two-RBI single from
Lee Thomas -- to take a 3-2 lead over Texas State.
The Bobcats regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth, driving in four runs to push their lead to 6-3. Texas State added another run in the bottom of the eighth, extending its advantage to 7-3.
The Cardinals mounted a rally in the ninth inning. With
Sean Arnold in scoring position and two outs on the scoreboard,
Ryan Flores smacked an RBI double down the left field line, adding a run to make the score 7-4. The rally fell short, however, as a groundout ended the inning and the Bobcats secured the win.
