SAN ANTONIO -- The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team completed its sweep of New Orleans with a 5-2 win on Sunday afternoon at Sullivan Field, sponsored by H-E-B.
 
NOTABLES

• John Shull started the game and struck out six batters in 5.0 innings pitched.
• Aaron Celestino (5-2) earned the win, pitching 0.1 innings.
• Bernie Martinez recorded his fourth save, striking out one batter in 2.0 innings pitched.
• Sean Arnold extended his reached-base streak to 25 games. He had a two-hit outing with a double and two RBI.
• Eddy Gonzalez, Ryan Gonzalez and Ridge Rogers each contributed two hits.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED
After three scoreless innings, the Cardinals opened scoring in the bottom of the fourth. Antonio Valdez came home on a R. Gonzalez double to give UIW the 1-0 lead. The Privateers answered in the top of the fifth, plating two runs to take a 2-1 advantage, but the Cardinals tied the game in the bottom of the frame. Rogers scored on an Arnold groundout to make the score 2-2.
 
UIW took a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the seventh. Rogers scored on an Arnold double, Arnold came home on an E. Gonzalez double, then E. Gonzalez added a run on a Valdez single. Martinez and the Cardinals went on to secure the 5-2 win and complete the series sweep against the Privateers.

The Cardinals travel to Corpus Christi, Texas, for a non-conference midweek game against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. (CT) at Chapman Field.
