SAN ANTONIO -- The University of the Incarnate Word women's tennis team couldn't muster enough to knock off the visiting New Orleans Privateers, dropping the dual, 4-3, Friday afternoon at the Mabry Tennis Center.
 
UNO drew first blood in doubles play, out-dueling the Cardinals on courts one and three to stake a 1-0 lead.
 
In singles play, the Cardinals fought back brilliantly, taking three of the five matches played, but UIW ultimately came up short, with UNO receiving an added point from the Cardinals' vacant No. 6 singles position.
 
The top Cardinals showed out in singles with Jelena Dordan claiming a three-set victory at No. 1 (4-6, 6-2, 6-3), while Victoria Kareh outlasted her opponent in the No. 2 slot (6-3, 5-7, 10-6). The UIW success in the third set spilled over onto court five, where Alejandra Tamayo claimed a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory, but a pair of Pioneer wins on courts three and four sealed the dual for UNO.
