LAKE CHARLES, La. -- The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team secured an 8-6 victory to complete a series sweep against McNeese on Sunday afternoon in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cardinals opened scoring in the top of the first when Arnold came home on a Flores ground out, giving UIW an early 1-0 lead.
After a clean second inning, Flores hit a solo home run to right field in the top of the third to extend the Cardinals' advantage to 2-0. McNeese then scored a run in the bottom of the frame to make it 2-1, in favor of UIW.
A R. Gonzalez single then plated Flores in the top of the fifth, extending the Cardinals' lead to 3-1.
With a Flores two-RBI single and a
Taylor Smith two-run home run, the Cardinals pushed their lead further to 7-1 in the top of the sixth. McNeese rallied for three runs in the bottom of the frame to cut UIW's lead to 7-4, but the UIW defense held fast to maintain the advantage.
E. Gonzalez scored on an
Antonio Valdez bases-loaded walk in the top of the seventh to add to UIW's lead (8-4). McNeese tacked on a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame, but the Cardinals once again stepped up to secure the 8-6 victory and complete the series sweep.

The Cardinals return to San Antonio for a marquee matchup against the University of Texas on Tuesday. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m. (CT) at Nelson Wolff Municipal Stadium.
