HOW IT HAPPENED
QTR 1 (19-18): The Cardinals jumped out to a 15-4 lead behind the elite play of
Robinson. The junior scored eight points and added an assist and steal in the first 4:14 of the game to give UIW the early breathing room. TAMCC bounced back to close to gap to just one point after the full 10 minutes but the Cardinals maintained the lead throughout the quarter.
Robinson led the team with eight points, two rebounds, two assists and a steal in the quarter. She was a +10 in her nearly seven minutes on the court in the frame.
QTR 2 (39-33): Islanders made it tough on UIW to start the second, even taking the lead, 24-25 with 5:39 remaining. But a swift 10-1 Cardinal run, fueled by eight points from
Bowie, restored control for UIW as they went into the halftime break up six points.
Bowie led the team with eight points, on 4-4 shooting.
Holter contributed five points as well, including a breakaway bucket on the earlier run.
QTR 3 (54-47): Out of the break, TAMCC emerged with renewed vigor, even leading the game with 6:15 remaining (44-45). Another run from UIW put a stop to that, this time an 8-0 run thanks to some terrific ball movement and finishing by
Bowie and
Robinson. By the end of the quarter, any TAMCC momentum had been lost and the Cardinals were staring at a seven-point lead with just 10 minutes left to finish.
QTR 4 (77-72): Defenses tightened in the final quarter as both teams battled for a critical conference win late in the season. But once again, the phenomenal free-throw shooting and rebounding of UIW propelled them to victory. The Cardinals out-rebounded the Islanders 12-5 in the fourth to extend possessions and limit TAMCC's chances at making a comeback. The Islanders brought the lead to as little as three points on multiple occasions in the fourth, but the Cardinals managed to get themselves to the line and hit their shots. UIW went 10-12 from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter, including a perfect 4-4 performance from
Holter. That, along with a pair of threes from
Wiggins gave UIW its second straight home win and fourth of their last five home games.
Wiggins led the team with seven points in the frame,
Bowie hauled in three rebounds to secure the win.
