SAN ANTONIO -- The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team is ready to compete in the annual Alamo Irish Classic this Thursday-Sunday at Wolff Stadium, facing off twice against Eastern Michigan and twice against Notre Dame.

Thursday, Feb. 21, 6 p.m. vs Eastern Michigan

THE CARDINALS- QUICK HITS
- The starting pitchers had an outstanding opening weekend, recording 27 strikeouts and allowing just two runs in 23 innings pitched as a group.
- Luke Taggart opened the season on the mound for the Cardinals. He tossed a scoreless 7.0 frames, recorded 10 strikeouts and allowed just two hits and two walks.
- Opponents had a 0.91 batting average against Taggart.
- Starting in all four games, Ryan Gonzalez got off to a hot start, recording six hits, six runs, five RBI and a home run for a .375 batting average through the first four contests of the season.
- Freshman Jordan Thompson made a great debut for the Cardinals, amassing three hits, four runs, seven RBI, and a double in three games.
- On opening day, Thompson went 2-for-4 with a run and five RBI.
SCOUTING EASTERN MICHIGAN
- This will be the first meeting between UIW and Eastern Michigan.
- The Eagles began their season 0-3-1, falling to NJIT in three games and tying in the fourth.
- Zachary Owings leads the team with a .444 batting average. He has eight hits, four runs and six RBI.
- Nick Jones recorded six hits, four runs and three RBI for a .429 batting average.
SCOUTING NOTRE DAME
- The Cardinals are 3-6 all time against the Fighting Irish. The teams last squared off on Feb. 22, 2018 when UIW secured a 5-3 victory at Wolff Stadium.
- The Irish are 0-3 overall after being swept by Arizona State last weekend.
- Daniel Jung leads Notre Dame with a .375 batting average. He racked up five hits, two runs and an RBI.
- Niko Kavadas recorded three hits, three runs, and two home runs for the Irish.

The Cardinals travel to College Station, Texas, to face Texas A&M on Feb. 27. First pitch at Blue Bell Park is set for 6:30 p.m. (CT)
